Tick & Mosquito Info

How do you know if you have ticks or mosquitoes at your property? If you live on Long Island, chances are you have them! The dangers of these insects are quite devastating and not very well studied until more recently. The following links are very helpful in understanding the basics of tick and mosquito related diseases found to be the most prominent in the eastern United States.

Lyme’s disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected black legged tick.

Ehrlichiosis is spread through the bite of an infected lone star tick (commonly known as the meat allergy tick) and black legged tick.

In addition to spraying your property to extinguish ticks and mosquitoes, remember to enforce the following simple habits at your home:

  • Cut your lawn frequently.
  • Keep tall grasses to a minimum and clean up leaf debris on your property.
  • Clean out areas in the yard that may hold water frequently (buckets, toys, trash bins).
